Micropipette Manipulation: Kinetics and Strength of Cell Adhesion
The Micropipette Manipulation technique is used to measure the dynamics of adhesion between single cells. This technique, which has piconewton force sensitivity, quantifies the impact of protein structures on protein-mediated adhesion between single cells. Current research addresses how the structure and composition of protein binding interfaces determine binding affinities, kinetics, and cell binding specificity relevant to tissue patterning in development. We use kinetic and molecular modeling to identify mechanisms of cell-cell adhesion, as well as the atomic scale interactions that determine adhesion dynamics and bond strength.
