Waters 70-SE-4F

(Acquired in 1987)

The 70-SE-4F is a high resolution (>50,000), extended geometry, four-sector 8 kV mass spectrometer with GC and an effective mass range of 1-6,000 Da. The 70-SE-4F is two Waters 70-SE mass spectrometers in tandem, has an E-B-E-B configuration, and was designed for performing MS/MS experiments as well as normal MS. It is equipped with a FAB ion source. Data acquisition on the 70-SE-4F is controlled by the Waters 11/250J data system. The fully laminated magnets can be scanned as fast as 0.05 sec/decade. The high pressure CID cell between MS1 and MS2 normally employs helium or argon as the collision gas for performing MS/MS experiments, but other gases can be used as long as they do not react with the aluminum cell block.

The 70-SE-4F is the primary instrument for HRFAB.
