Course Description
Chemistry 544 is a graduate level course covering a number of topics in statistical mechanics and thermodynamics:
Basic mathematical, statistical and mechanics used, postulates of statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, thermodynamic potentials, Legendre transforms, chemical potentials and reaction thermodynamics, phase transitions, partition functions, boson and fermion statistics, denisty matrices, time correlation functions, Brownian motion, Langevin and Smoluchowski equations, the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, linear response theory of chemical reactions.
The selection of topics varies a little from year to year. A syllabus from which a SELECTION of topics will be covered is given here as an html link.
