SCS STAFF AWARDS 2006-2007
Each year the SCS recognizes a few of our many outstanding staff for a special thank-you. This year's staff awards recognize the following individuals:
Derek Fultz, Chemistry Laboratory Specialist/ Safety Coordinator.
Derek is responsible for safety and facilities issues in the department of chemistry. His portfolio of duties is large and growing. Most recently, he provided essential help during the Baranger/Hartwig move to UIUC. John Hartwig writes: "In the four institutions I have participated in chemical research, I have never encountered a staff person who was as committed and capable of enabling research through managing facilities issues as Derek Fultz."
Bill Knight, Machine Shop Supervisor
Bill is responsible for
the smooth and efficient operation of the SCS machine shop, one of the largest
on campus. He is recognized not only for his substantial efforts in running
the shop well, but also for his prowess in instrument design and fabrication. As
Rich Masel writes: "Bill does such a wonderful job as shop
supervisor. You can bring him rough plans and he makes the device work. If it is a rush
job he might even do it himself."
Stacy Olson, Coordinator of Research and Editorial Programs
Stacy is recognized for her efficacy in running the organic area office. She is an effective trouble-shooter, who is available to immediately take care of problems and concerns. As Anne Baranger writes: "The office she runs is efficient, friendly, and helpful".
