SCS STAFF AWARDS    2007-2008

Each year the SCS recognizes a few of our many outstanding staff for a special thank-you. This year's staff awards recognize the following individuals:

Christy Bowser, Staff Secretary.

Christy provides support to the Head and faculty in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She is recognized for her efficiency and organization. Her nominator writes: "Christy is a sensationally organized, efficient, and all-around helpful individual. She is forward-thinking and takes initiative to make all situations easier for everyone involved. She worked with me on numerous undergraduate affairs including our Commencement ceremony, which went perfectly thanks to her meticulousness."

Patricia Phillips-Batoma, Director of Instructional Computing

Patricia is recognized for her initiative, skill, and patience. Her nominator writes: "Patricia wrote and received funding from the Dreyfus Foundation for a media studio. This is obviously something we hope more of our staff would do. Beyond this Patricia maintains all of the course web sites and the Chemistry Learning Center with great skill and patience. It is a very large and complex job that at times (particularly at the start of semesters) can be very stressful. This past year Patricia has been particularly challenged by having to hire and train a replacement for Cindy Yewdall and then James Ambulencia. She has handled this very well. Finally Patricia has worked effectively to advance our presence in the technology arena, for example by working with the campus on our iTunes University contract."

Lori Sage-Karlson, Program Administration Assistant

Lori supervises the SCS Mail, Duplicating, and Receiving Office. She is recognized for her skill and efficiency in running the SCS receiving operation and for going beyond the call of duty in several areas. Her nominator writes: "Lori fills a crucial role in SCS by making sure that receiving operations work well. In this past year, she has also ably dealt with potentially very serious emergencies with our large liquid nitrogen tank and demonstrated patience and humor in dealing with faculty colleagues under less than ideal conditions".
