Brief Biography

Spurti Akki received her B.Tech. degree in chemical engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, India in 2010. In Fall 2010 she joined the graduate program in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, working under the joint supervision of Prof Charles J. Werth (CEE) and Prof. Scott K. Silverman (Chemistry) on the development of DNA-based aptasensors for water contaminants. She completed her Ph.D. studies with Prof. Werth after his move to the University of Texas at Austin with Prof. Werth, and she obtained the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois in June 2018.

Research Interests

My research project sought to develop DNA-based aptasensors for water contaminants such as steroid hormones.
