Brief Biography

Joshua Avins received his B.A. degree in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins in 2004. He studied with Virginia Cornish at Columbia University, earning the Ph.D. degree in October 2010 and continuing jointly with Ruben Gonzalez at Columbia for postdoctoral work. From August 2011 through June 2013 he was a postdoc with with Scott K. Silverman at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Research Interests

In the Silverman lab, I investigated the potential contributions of modified DNA nucleotides to catalysis by deoxyribozymes.
