Brief Biography

Jagadeeswaran (Jagdeesh) Chandrasekar received his M.S. (Integrated) degree in chemistry from IIT Bombay, India in 2010. In Fall 2010 he joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he began working under the supervision of Prof. Scott K. Silverman on studies to understand DNA catalysis. He earned his Ph.D. degree in April 2016, and in May 2016 he moved to Seattle to begin his career at Stratos Genomics Inc. Outside of lab, Jagdeesh likes to play frisbee and disc golf, cook, and listen to jazz music.

Research Interests

My research in the Silverman lab sought deoxyribozymes that catalyze dephosphorylation of phosphorylated tyrosine and serine side chains in peptide and protein substrates. I also studied deoxyribozymes with phosphoserine and phosphothreonine lyase activity.
