Holiday Party '12

Lab members and friends enjoyed the good food and company at the annual holiday party.

Almost everybody got what they asked for from their Secret Santa.

Rob is especially excited about his Monster energy drink

Hyang Yeon loved her coffee mug, but nobody was as happy as Howard in his Cubs hat.

Giant Jenga made its debut, allowing Paul to use his advising skills to help Rachel avoid toppling the tower

Even in giant jenga, Paul relies on the "legal manuever" to avoid losing. Eventually though, the tower did fall.

Fun '12

Lab members took over a local Mexican restaurant to celebrate summer accomplishments and bid farewell to Kathy.

Kathy thinks she is just enjoying the evening with Amy...

...until they make her wear a sombrero.

Holiday Party '11

Rob demonstrates the importance of protein in a balanced diet while Adina and Michelle ejoy dinner.

Isak and his wife enjoy the delicious meal. Emilia's present reflects her love of baseball, but not her dislike of the Cubs.

Julia and Jessie show off their gifts.

We're all very excited about dinosaurs.

Hmm, that Jenga tower looks pretty unstable...

Summer Party '11

Lab members and friends enjoy food and drink in the Hergenrothers backyard. Paul took grilling very seriously.

Everyone (except Big Rob) is having a good time.

During Minute-to-Win-It games, Tim tries to keep three balloons in flight and Julia dominates at the marble game.

Oreo-stacking brought out everyone's competitve side. Once games were finished group members relaxed inside.

Fun '11

Each of the three students who graduated this summer had a science-themed cake

But Tiffany's periodic-table cupcakes definitely took the, um, cake.

While out at a celebratory lab dinner, everyone enjoys the food and company.

Joe's roast was MC-ed by Betsy and also featured DNQ cookies!

Holiday Party '10

Lab members and friends relax and enjoy a holiday pot-luck feast.

During the gift exchange, Isak gets in the Christmas spirit and Nora is ecstatic about her new poster.

Rob poses next to his regulation-sized football and Tim gets a bag of coal.

And at the end of the night, the lab enjoyed a game of "One loser, no winners" - also known as Jenga.

Summer Party '10

Lab members and friends enjoy the nice weather and great food

Lab members competed fiercely for bragging rights in Minute to Win It games.

The oreo face game proved to be very challenging

Matt dominated at Broom-Marshmallow-Cup

The night ended with a couple rounds of Jenga in true Hergenrother Lab style

Spring Party 2010

Paul displays his CU pride while the group enjoys a night out.

Tim and James are having a great time.

Julia and Paul compare wingspans.

Holiday Party 2009

People broke out their favorite holiday sweaters to celebrate the holidays with food and friends.

The favorite gift to give in this year's Secret Santa exchange...gift cards from the coffee joint across the street from the chemistry building.

The old "italian dinner in the heater box" trick...

We finished off the night with a spirited game of Jenga.

Summer Party 2009

Quinn proudly displays the pizza he constructed and heads outside to throw it on the grill.

Meagan, Rob, Patrick, Azra, and Mary Jane wait patiently for their turn as cheesy pizza smells waft their direction.

Kristin makes a new friend while Mom and Dad grab a bite.

Kristin leads the lab in a competitive game of "How well do you know your labmate?"

Did anyone ever doubt that Diana would be a Guitar Hero champ?

And a star is born...

Holiday Party 2008

Ben imparts his wisdom to undergraduates, Clint and Dewey. Dewey ignores him.

Emily and Julia are full of food and happy.

Mirth and Andres stop to smile for the camera.

Amy shows Aaron how it's done.

Kristin piles up the Secret Santa presents.

Seok-Ho is giddy from the prospect of free coffee.

Darts anyone?

Sometimes your experiments just need a little TLC.

Joe won't be taking any sick days in 2010.

Luau - Summer 2008

What's a luau without a pig roast?

Mirth and Tim strike a pose in floral garb.

Clint serenaded us with Jack Johnson songs to set the luau mood.

Diana chows down on some yummy pork and cornbread.

How low can Joe go?

Fruity drinks anyone?

Tim strikes up a game of beach volleyball as the sun sets in Champaign.

Holiday Party - 2007

Some people handle the stress of the holidays better than others.

Julia is from Idaho.

Joe and Ben both got presents that reminded them of their younger days.

Diana likes headbands...a lot.

Todd was a little apprehensive about what Secret Santa might have given him...lumps of coal perhaps?

Ryan and Kate wait patiently as Ellen reads them a story.

Scavenger Hunt - Summer 2007

The lab was divided into three teams for the ultimate scavenger hunt challenge! The winning team was not chosen only by performance in the scavenger hunt but also by the name they chose for themselves and costume.

  • First Place - Pants on Fire 1
  • Second Place - Green Eggs and Tim
  • Third Place - Bonnie Blue Warriors

Joe S. seems nervous about playing on the train tracks.

Do you think a trailer and two women weigh 400 lbs?  The look on Joe's face says, "YES!"

Green Eggs and Tim try to blend in with their rosy cheeks.

t

Can you find Robin in this picture?

t

The Hergenrother men are so beefy, they don't even have to use both hands to lift 400 lbs.

t

The green team was extra respectful of the expensive ribosomal art.

t

Green Eggs and Tim smile as they hold up traffic on Abbey Road.

t

Ben is REALLY excited about finding this dog.

t

For most of the green team members, running on the track is enough, but Ben and Tim just have to skip.

t

Based on the looks on Dave and Tim's faces, they were imitating the sound of the fountain as well.

t

After Green Eggs and Tim spelled ALIEN by Assembly Hall, Dave (aka "E") kicked Tim (aka "N") in the butt.

t

Monkeys!

t

Ryan and Ellen climb the ribosomal art...

t

...but not without getting in trouble.

t

The blue team stops in front of a bobcat for a quick wheelbarrow race.

t

The Bonnie Blue Warriors like Hooters for the food...honest.

t

Ryan makes such an enthusiastic "I".

t

The lady Bonnie Blue Warriors suck their thumbs in front of Joe's Brewery.

t

Is traffic stopping because the blue team looks funny or because they're wearing very short kilts?
