Introducing ... Sung Joon

My name is Sung Joon Yoon and was born in Seoul, Korea. After two decades of turmoil (and much blessings) with stops at Philadelphia, New Hampshire (Yes, I was a preppie at St. Paul's School...), and Boston, I am a graduate student at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, I am pursuing PhD in the Department of Chemical Engineering under my mentor, Prof. Charles F. Zukoski, III, in Colloids and Interfacial Science research group. Here is picture of Zukoski kids with our fearless leader (and also the head of our department) at the center. I am standing to the right of him.

Someday, guys in this picture will be just as famous as some scientists pictured below in the Solvay Conference of 1927! (May be not quite, but we can try...) Doesn't it boggle your mind that so many influential thinkers (as many of their names are familiar to us through our textbooks) actually got together in one place to discuss and exchange ideas? I am a Christian living in Urbana, a city that is famous for being in the middle of America's largest corn producing region and as a host of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship(IVCF)'s Urbana Conference that is usually held every three years. (The next conference will commence the onset of the next Millennium: December, 2000) If you are interested in the Missions to spread the good news of Jesus Christ, come! I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.... Urbana 96 made a lasting impact on my life and vision. So think about it... and as a bonus, you will get to see me, too! J

It has been wonderful three years in Illinois so far. Prior to my arrival in Urbana, my family traveled California together right after graduating from MIT. Here is a picture of my father and me, taken during the trip. My father is the source of inspiration and love for me... Thank you, Dad, for being who you are. You are the best!

I will be in NYC area from September till December, 1999 to work on a research project with

Colgate-Palmolive(They make toothpaste, Ajax, Fab, and many more personal care products).

Ask me which product I will be working on... I might send you some free samples. J

I will be back to the University of Illinois by January, 2000 to continue my Ph.D.
