Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access

Organizations that have a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) tend to be more successful.  Diverse, inclusive teams are more likely to explore creative and innovative ideas, be better collaborators, and build communities where members feel involved and thus more committed to the team.

As a result, the School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) seeks to further DEIA by actively fostering an inclusive and diverse community where issues of equity and access can be discussed and to provide an outlet for all Chemical Sciences employees through our DEIA Committee.

Specifically, the goals of the School of Chemical Sciences Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) Committee include:

  1. Employees – We provide a confidential avenue for employees within SCS to safely approach the committee with DEIA-related concerns.  The committee strives to promote a workforce that includes an increased number of people from backgrounds that are under-represented within the field of higher education.

  2. Facilities – We endeavor to ensure all laws are followed, and to oversee, evaluate, and provide recommendations that safeguard safe, open, welcoming, and accessible labs and facilities.

  3. Community – We seek to uphold departmental, college, and campus missions and values to further DEIA and to address barriers keeping all within our community from feeling a sense of welcome and belonging.
